Over the weekend I picked up a few books from the library. I’ve read Nancy Farmer before – House of the Scorpions is one of my all time favorites – but I never got around to her Trolls trilogy. The first book is called Sea of Trolls. It’s about a kid named Jack who lives with his parents on a sheep farm. His life is pretty boring – he deals with an unsupportive father, a bratty little sister and sheep that enjoy causing him pain – but that all changes when the town bard (basically a wizard) takes Jack as his apprentice.
But before Jack can learn much, he and his sister are kidnapped by a bunch of North Men - who plan on selling them as slaves! And that’s not all; they work for an evil half-troll who is out to kill the bard! Can Jack and his sister ever escape? Just who is that mysterious North Man named Thorgil? Can the bard survive? Find out in the first thrilling book of the series – Sea of Trolls!
